Suzanne Eisendieck – Coiffure de ballerine

Coiffure de Ballerina. Oil on canvas by Suzanne Eisendieck, French, 1908-1998. Youthful, fun and typical Eisendieck. This is a scene from a ballet capturing the essence of the period and fabulous costumes and hair design. Moderate application of paint with purposeful brush strokes and pallet knife and possibly sponge. C. 1960. Signed: “Suzanne Eisendieck” lower left in orange paint.  Frame is carved wood and gesso in very good condition with a motley reddish brown wash over gold. It suits the painting. Linen matt with painted fillet and light gold fillet.  Au verso: this was in the private collection of Mr. Max Stern, owner of the Dominion Gallery, Montreal – looks like he owned it from 1986 to 1998. Extensive inventory labeling. “Coiffure de ballerina” printed by Suzanne Eisendieck on the back of the canvas. Excellent condition. $3,300. Frame size: 21.5″ H x 16.75″ W. Canvas is on a stretcher. Canvas size: 13.5″ H x 8.5″ W. Wt: 6.0 lb. 2.8 kg.
