Sergio Bustamante – Chimpanzee

Paper Maché Chimpanzee created by Sergio Bustamante in the 1970s. There are quite a few renditions of the Bustamante Chimps and this one has the very detailed face and full body painting. The chimp is completely covered in hair and shows many facial, nose, mouth and hand details. He hangs from his right hand and arm and has the body manner of a real chimpanzee. If he is viewed from the side, back or front he looks so natural. He is in perfect condition with no cracks or broken fingers or toes. There are tiny, minor scuff marks on one area of his back where he has been laid down. Complete with hanging trapeze. This is an exceptional piece with COA in hand. $2995. Sergio Bustamante – Armadillo Thinking

Sculpture by Sergio Bustamante. Ceramic and hand painted. Signed and numbered: Sergio Bustamante 39/100″ This is one of a pair that goes with “Turtle Bride”. Turtle and Armadillo were going to get married but Armadillo left her at the alter. He packed his bag and left, but now he feels guilty and remorse. Perfect condition. Sergio Bustamante – “Lion on stand”

Magnificent metal lion by Sergio Bustamante. Signed and numbered by etching into the metal “Sergio Bustamante 63/100″. Hundreds of curved metal pieces are formed to capture an exact bust of an adult, male lion. The lion is peering into the distance, no doubt trying to line up a lunch. King of the beasts for sure, very majestic in copper and gold coloured brass. In excellent condition. C. 1975. Excellent condition for its age. Some markings. $1,600.  Size: 31.5″ H x 11″ W x 15″ D. François Gall – Jeune Femme

Oil on canvas – “Jeune Femme” by Francois Gall 1912-1987. A painting of his daughter (his second most favourite subject). Circa 1950s. Great composition with emphasis on framing the subject.  Signed lower left “F. Gall” in black. Nicely framed with crinkle paint on wood with linen on wood and gold, wooden fillet. Jack Martin – Saturday Afternoon, Markham

Oil on mill board. Canadian. Jack Martin, O.S.A. (Ontario Association of Artists). Beautiful small painting of a house in Markham, Ontario.  He was O.S.A. in 1946. Martin showed at the CNE in 1947. Kees Van Dongen – Le Coquelicot (the Corn Poppy)

“Le Coquelicot” (The Corn Poppy)” Kees Van Dongen 1877-1968. C. 1919. The original is oil on canvas (21.5″ H x 18″ W) and completed in 1919. It’s at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX. 20th century French school. “ALBI Musée Toulouse-Lautrec”. A limited edition coloured lithographic poster for the artist’s April 1960 exhibition. Signed: “Van Dongen” in the plate and signed “”Van Dongen” in pencil, centre bottom. Numbered 3/21 and embossed atelier stamped on the margin.  The poster has the embossed, Van Dongen seal of authenticity top right in margin. Frame is gilt with slight tinge of soft red. Off-white matt with red matt under, both with beveled edges. Rare and excellent condition. $5,500. Frame size: 35.5″ H x 27.5″ W. Subject size: 25.75″ H x 18.5″ W. Wt: 10 lb. 4.4 kg.

Moderate application of paint with purposeful brush strokes and pallet knife. C. 1960. Signed “Suzanne Eisendieck” lower left in orange paint. Brass plaque with “Suzanne Eisendieck” silk-screened in black, lower centre.  Frame is carved wood in very good condition with a motley reddish brown wash over gold. It suits the painting. Linen matt with painted fillet and light gold fillet.  Au verso: this was in the private collection of Mr. Max Stern, owner of the Dominion Gallery, Montreal – looks like he owned it from 1986 to 1998. Extensive inventory labeling. “Coiffure de ballerina” printed by Suzanne Eisendieck on the back of the canvas. Excellent condition. $3,300. Frame size: 21.5″ H x 16.75″ W. Canvas is on a stretcher. Suzanne Eisendieck – Femme sur banc vert

Oil on canvas. Perfect condition. Woman seated on green park bench. Eisendieck was married to Dietz Edzard and they painted the same subjects very often. Their styles are similar but faces were always painted in a different style.  There is a sister painting to this one by Edzard.  Acquiring the pair would increase the value of both substantially. Period carved wood and gesso  frame with some minor repairs. Frame size 35.5″ H x 31″ W. Canvas size 25″ H x 21.5″ W. Signed “Suzanne Eisendieck” lower right. “No. 365. Femme sur banc vert. Oil on canvas. Perfect condition. Woman doing laundry duty – ironing. Signed “Suzanne Eisendieck” lower left. Delightful misspelling in her signature.  It looks like she added an extra “S”. Eisendieck was married to Dietz Edzard and they painted the same subjects very often. Their styles are similar but faces were always painted in a different style. Frame is modern with motley, gold patina on wood.  Linen matt with inner painted wood, bevelled filet giving the painting relief and some depth from the frame. Frame size 31″ H x 23″ W. Francois Gall – Juillet, Paris, June 1960

Paris, Juin/Juillet 1960. Paris, June/July 1960. Oil on canvas by François Gall. Woman is the wife of Franois, Eugènie, (daughter’s name, Marie-Lise), who is looking in a mirror and getting ready to go out. Fabulous colour throughout. François painted his wife many times – she was his go-to model. Lovely and one of his best works. Two writings on the back – one giving the date and Paris. The other says the painting sold in Paris and the address is 14 Place ?? Ornate frame is wood and gesso with gold patinated colour with dark red and grey patches. Linen border with gold and painted fillet. Excellent condition. Frame size: 24″ H x 21″ W. Canvas size: 16″ H x 13″ W. Wt: 7.0 lb. 3.2 kg.

Fried Pal – Paulette

Oil on canvas by Pal Fried. This is a riveting creation of one of the greatest portrait artists of the 20th century. Her eyes follow you wherever you are in the room. He painted Paulette a number of times and she was a favourite model. Signed: “Fried Pal” lower left and titled “Paulette” on the reverse. Also on the reverse is the artist’s copyright stamp and the inventory number 52354.
